OldGuy!Dean did an awesome job at getting Jensen's mannerisims down.

Shallow not of the week: Jensen, plz keep growing/do not cut your hair. I'm loving it.

I thought the two witch characters were interesting enough and well acted. But thought it was a bit strange to still leave the he-witch out free taking years from people.

Jensen rocked that last scene with Bobby. This episode really drove home to me just how much Jensen brings to the show.

I just really want them to embrace the whole apocalypse thing, gear up, and bring out the big guns. I really wish it was definite that this is the last season and Kripke was sticking to his plan and would maybe pull out all the stops. I mean where do you go after the angelverse/Lucifer/apocalypse.

The humorous one shot episodes just aren't cutting it for me anymore. There was a time I loved them very much, but I feel at this point the show has moved past having this many episodes of this type. Next week looks like more hijinks. I mean this is the apocalypse with Lucifer running free (who seems to want to just sit on his ass, I guess) - last season was darker and more fluid and had better flow than this.

I've been reading a lot of Dean/Cas fic lately and have come across some really wonderful stuff. So I thought I'd go ahead and do a Top 5 Dean/Cas fic rec post.

1) The Waste Land

Warnings: Blanket spoilers for all aired episodes of SPN & character death-ish sort of maybe possibly but not really (trust me, this will make sense). Boatloads of angst but a happy ending this time, I swear on a stack of Cas’ Bibles!
Summary: Dean gets sent back to the future where he learns that there might be some things worth saving there after all.
My notes: This is one of the best fics I have read in forever. It’s darkly beautiful, angsty, and powerful. You feel what Dean is feeling throughout the whole thing.

2) Welcome To Oz

Rating: NC-17
Genre and/or Pairing: slash, Dean/Castiel
Spoilers: All of season 4.
Summary: Dean wakes up in the cheerfully painted yellow kitchen of a middle class home in Suburbia, USA. There are two things that tip him off to the fact that he’s in a state that ain’t Kansas or reality: one, the fact that he can’t remember how he got to this kitchen or what happened immediately preceding his arrival (such as falling asleep or being hit in the face with a squirt of hallucinogenic demon juice); two, the way everything seems too bright and perfect to be real—from the picture window above the sink to the sliding glass doors that .
My notes: Dean and Cas are transported to an alternate universe and don’t know how they got there or what is going on. It’s a fascinating idea and draws you right in to the surreal, dreamlike quality of it all at the start. It just builds and builds on itself and it’s interesting how Dean and Cas both try to adapt.

3) Beneath The Sheets of Paper

Pairing: Castiel/Dean Winchester
Rating: NC-17
Spoilers: Set sometime after 5.04, “The End.”
Summary: Castiel never asks for anything for himself. Dean finds this frustrating.
My notes: Cas is so adorably Cas in this. Even the Sam/Cas interactions are super cute. The detail and mood of this is just awesome and it leaves you with warm fuzzies.

4) Gained In Translation
Author: aesc
Pairing: Dean/Castiel
Rating: NC-17
Spoilers: For all of S4, set in some point during S5 but no specific spoilers
Summary: Possibly, Dean thinks when he flips off the radio and the kitchen falls into a buzzing, anxious silence, he is going nuts. Only maybe he's got some serious denial going on, that he's pushed the end of the world back underneath work, fixing the Impala, fixing other cars for Bobby's few customers.
My notes: The use of language in this is beautiful and hot and gorgeous. There is this sense of tranquility and love and emotion throughout it.

5) In The Silence Afterward

Rating: NC-17
Genre and/or Pairing: Dean/Castiel, with Anna, Lucifer, Zachariah and Sam along for the ride
Spoilers: Up until the end of 4x22. There are no spoilers for S5.
Warnings: Violence, brief torture, angst and darkness up the wazoo, character death.
Summary: After Lucifer rises, Dean goes mute.
My notes: Don’t let the fact that Special Snowflake is in this dissuade you, this fic is extremely poignant, moving and powerful and has such beautiful imagery.

Okay, so this is like so last week, but I forgot to check for the new installment until now - probably cause I hated the damn episode so much... Anyway, the brilliant bakinblakmakes these awesome slash/crack episode video recaps for Supernatural. They never fail to make me snort, cackle, squee, and giggle. You should never, ever drink any sort of liquid while watching these - full disclosure and all. Anyway, moving on and getting to the point of this post, her installment for last week's episode of FAIL that was 5X05 is so, so awesome and captures pretty much every reason I hated the episode.
